Bright, streaked sunset is followup to Hurricane Harvey

Ruddy shore bird turns into escape artist
We were down on Bolivar Peninsula checking out the pre-storm conditions (with Hurricane Harvey moving up through the Gulf of Mexico) when I shot this photo of a Rudy Turnstone. Because of the bright conditions, I didn't notice at the time that this guy had gotten snagged in what looks like a remnant from a net. I checked the photos I took after this and notice that he did finally get free from his bondage.

Castle Climber
Our grandson, Sloan, looks down from his castle perch high in the sky at Tugboat Island in Port Neches. TX.

Cotton ball clouds warn of storm
These cotton-ball clouds seemed to be the advanced scouts for thunderstorm that mostly went just north of us in April.

Sunset: Subdued brilliance
The sunset last night was somewhat subdued and brilliant at the same time. There were few sharp edges since the clouds were so diffused. The crepuscular rays were almost faded away when I pulled off the road to shoot this shot.

Sky-fire sunset overwhelms camera phone
I was taking my dog out for a walk in the crisp air the other night, when this last bit of sunset exploded overhead. My phone camera could barely contain itself with excitement -- not that he knew what to do with color this bright and bold swashbuckled across the sky.

Sky fire
This is another view from that fiery sunset the other day as we were driving home. The sun's rays were skimming the bottoms of the cloud puffs -- just one last show of power by Sir Helios.

Cloud-spangled sky
Nighttime and daytime often just pass the torch with a slow shift of color. However, sometimes, like this night, daytime lingers a while longer and makes one last cloud-spangled splash across the sky.

Live sundown stage
The Beaumont, TX, downtown skyline appears as dark stage props against the glowing sunset. "...all the world's a stage."

A cloud's brief life in the heavens
Clouds climbing on top of each other push upward into the thinning sunlight at day's end. Without the sun's help, the vapor hordes will lose their urge to soar and shape-shift into huge lawn sprinklers.

Sun nixes thunderous conspiracy.
This thunderhead held its head high until the sun refused to go along with his plan to light up the night. Losing the sun's heat, the cloud started shedding rain drops at nearly the same pace as the Helios' decline.

Exterior decorating -- sky styling
Sundown was very complicated last night. The golden last rays of sunshine were glittering in one corner of the sky. A massive rain cloud covered the opposite side. Covering the entire sky between the two was a lightly rose-brushed blanket of clouds.

Clouds climb is futile
Billowing clouds punch futilely up into the sky, because the sun has spent his fury for the day. It did make a nice closing act at the end of the day.

Flying home -- neither wind, nor rain, nor...
I was surprised to see a plane flying below the clouds yesterday when a storm was broadsiding Beaumont. The storm blasted passed with winds whipping the trees and the clouds swirling one way, then the next. However, there the high flyer was. We are driven by schedules and time tables. Nature has to push harder than this to hinder our plans.

The changing of the guards
The sun, sapped of its strength, passes reign over to the misty night, in the slow hush of night fall.

Lofty game of Sky King
Is is just my imagination or do the Sun and the clouds sometimes like to play a game to see who is the most majestic. Kind of like King on the Sky.
